The Fears
of Restructuring in Nigeria is the major cause of her political instability
currently. Infact the Independent people of Biafra IPOB believes that the
Nigerian cabal will never allow a restructuring. The country since independence
has been held by the agelong greed of a cabal that are grossly aware of how
close to justice, equality and national development Nigeria will be,
should it experience restructuring.
I have always believed
it will not be easy to manage Nigeria from Abuja. Regional governments will
bring dividends of democracy to the people, resolve instrastructure problems
and enforce fairness. We were all in this country to see what Former Governor
Babatunde Raji Fasola did to Lagos in 8 years of rule. He touched
lives and brought dividends of democracy to the people. Lagos has more people
than some countries of the world. Hence, her governor could be likened to the
president of some countries. The same man upon that sterling performance
was assigned to become Minister for power and works. All hopes were raised
and the decision sounded divine. But in 2 years, despite his intense
efforts, the dividends of his outstanding work model, for which he is well
known, is yet to reach Nigerians.
Babatunde Raji
Fasola's average performance at the federal level is the proof that this system
of centralised government is never going to work even if you bring geniuses from
Princeton or Pluto. And why will it ever be? We claim to be a federal republic
but we are not practising True Federalism. I will have preferred the name
Centralised Republic of Nigeria or perhaps a Democratic republic. Calling us a
federal republic is a misnomer.
Regions should be
called forth to control their resources. Some Petrodollars might still be spent
on Abuja as the FCT but the bulk of it should be used for fixing Eket, Ahoada
and Warri. The burden on the center is too much to solve the problems of the
country on a scientific scale. This is a country of 170m people for God's sake
and Nigerians want a government that knows their salaries, their
qualifications, their capacities and their needs.
But really when I hear
of anyone opposing restructuring in Nigeria, My questions are always thus: Who
is he? How old is he? How long has he been in government? Where do his kids
live in Nigeria? Or are they abroad? Did they school in Nigeria? Sometimes we
need to see their homes where water and lights do not blink. Their posh cars
rest on terraces hence they are not
aware of bad roads. Their kids graduated from Yale so they do not understand
ASUU strikes. The money he is spending was the one diverted dur
ing the military
era so no EFCC is coming at him for now. He is yet to touch the ones
freshly stolen.
Nigeria will never
survive with clueless leaders who after taking
to their coffers what their kids will eat and live on till 2099 come on air to shut
down people clamoring for restructuring. Restructuring is the escape pathway
from breaking apart. The people clamoring for restructuring in Nigeria are not the greedy ones. And the
greedy ones are not the ones trying to break the country apart currently.
Infact the greedy enemies of the country are the ones that have stared at the
problems of the country for decades, changing political portfolios without permanently
addressing the agelong problems of the country.
Those are the very people that want to break the country. They are the very
greedy ones to be sued for treason.
